. It was a little after her mother’s death that she started coming down to the forest. Eva wasn’t sure why at first; her feet were often ahead of her mind for the first few weeks. After a while, she began to notice the almost… content feeling that settled over her in the silent walk. No one to watch her and no walls to keep her in. A little taste of freedom in an otherwise caged existence; although Evangeline preferred not to think of it in that way. Happily, she noticed the pond come into view and finished the last part of the journey at a light jog. Stopping abruptly at the very edge, the twelve year old merely peered at her reflection for a while in the clear water. Then she frowned, running her fingers through light pink strands. Her roots were beginning to show slightly, vivid red beginning to contrast the soft pink. The color so much like blood… she’d need to dye it again soon. ‘Why? Such a pretty colour…’Please don’t. The voice… it was always there, but she had become accustomed to tuning it out. Eva didn’t enjoy listening to the fox; it had very little nice things to say. Settling herself on the grass, the small girl merely observed the wildlife with naïve emerald eyes. There was a rustle in the grass, causing the girl to turn her head and see the disturbance. A fox lay pressed to the grass, merely observing the intruder with little worry. Eva couldn’t say she felt particularly worried either; foxes had always felt some form of attraction to her. But… she thought sadly, fingers ghosting over her yellow and orange id bracelet …I’m not like you. And it was true.[/ul]

Davin sighed a littl as she walked through the forest. Her eyes were trained on the ground before her, and her black and white i.d. bracelet pinnged every time it moved against the plethora or multicoloured rubber/plastic ones, along with her other bangles. She frowned a bit, moving her hair from her eyes. She stopped at the pond, and noticed the reflection of another girl. She looks familar...OH! Davin mentally slapped herself. "Eva?" she asked tentively. She wasn't great with names, but she knew her own family members' names, and a few of the Kikelatami's members too. Davin's lightly tanned skin shone a bit under the bronzed light that the sun cast through the thickets of the forest. Davin's eyes flicked to the girl's identification bracelet. Kyuubi. Thought so.
Davin had met the younger girl back when they used to share bedrooms with other members of the family while the estates were being expanded. The two were semi-close, but Davin had notice she was quiet, and she didn't really like to talk much. Davin sighed, and sat with her feet in the water. She frowned a bit, and looked at Eva. "You can come join me if you want..." she offered, motioning to the land next to her. She normally didn't like socializing, but since it was Evangeline, she was willing to make a small change to her normalities.

The girl thought dejectedly, looking at Davin from the corner of her eye once again. She hadn’t seen the female nekomata in a long while; she’d heard some maids gossiping that she had been given her own wing, though the reason hadn’t been mentioned. Her own room was almost right next to the Head’s, only a kitchen and a small spare room filling the space between the two rooms. Although she’d never admit it openly, she hadn’t been exactly thrilled with the arrangement. Still, who was she to argue? It wasn’t that she exactly disliked the Hachimata, it was just… well, Eva probably labelled the feeling around the head as unease. Then again, it was probably the Kyuubi talking. Well… maybe. Swallowing a little, she turned to Davin with a small smile on her face. While the silence was comfortable, and she wasn’t much of a talker herself, it seemed rude to nearly ignore her cousin. “Erm… it’s been a long time, hasn’t it?” She began slowly, voice as quiet as her mannerisms might suggest. “Erm… how have you been? Is… school okay? It started a while ago…” This was part of the reason Eva was a better listener; she could never figure out for the life of her what to say. Then there was the added worry of her own anxiety incase whatever she said offended the other person. Chewing the inside of her lip nervously, she hoped that wasn’t the case. The last thing the girl wanted was to offend the elder. I need to keep my moth shut…[/ul] [Er... sorry, bad post. ._.;]

“Erm… it’s been a long time, hasn’t it?........Erm… how have you been? Is… school okay? It started a while ago…”
She smiled a bit. "School has been fine for me, Eva. Been a bit busy and all. And It has been a very long while since I've seen you, what with the hachimata making me stay in my own wing of the house..." She frowned a bit, the frown marring her pretty features. She sighed. "I don't understand why the hachimata made me stay in my own wing...I'm not half as dangerous as the isonade or the soukou or houkou....oh well." She sighed a little more. She glanced over at Evangeline, and knew what she was thinking. "Hey, Eva...if you want, I'll dye your hair for you." She smiled lightly at the younger girl. I love your colour now, but i bet I can make it stand out." she smiled faintly, looking at the pond. "Our beauty is natural, Eva. Only we can enhance it to fit our visions." she said softly, hugging the younger girl carefully.
"Whenever you want to, stop by my wing in the Brynhilduar Main House. I'll be waiting with hair dye and some other things. We'll make your beauty shine through." She rose easily, her movements like a dancers, and a cat's. She turned, her eyes shining in the light. "I promise you, Eva. You'll learn to love your beauty, just the way it is. The way I did." She nodded, turning to the pond, placing her hand on it, the water rippling past her hand. She laughed, a beautiful, musical, bubbly laugh that had people envying her for more than her looks.
"Eva....you're more like a sister to me, and a terribly close friend...I do hope...you'll like the way I'll enhance your natural beauty....to make you shine the way I do, and most envy most harshly. I promise you that you'll hold your head high....and love how you look."

Evangeline nodded in sympathy, jade green eyes soft with understanding. So the rumour was true… that didn’t seem fair. Davin was always such a nice person to her; it didn’t seem right to separate her from everyone else. Chewing her lip lightly, she said quiet, “That’s good to hear… but it’s… not very fair… is it?” Maybe she could say something? Not that the Hachimata would ever listen to whatever she had to say… but maybe she could improve the Head’s opinion of the other girl, so she could socialise with the rest of the family? Yeah, that seemed like a plan… if she could open her mouth and actually say something. Whenever she was around the authority figure, it seemed that her throat would constrict and her tongue would go dry and the conversation would be reduced the nodding on her part. It was rather pitiful, really. ‘Pathetic.’"Hey, Eva...if you want, I'll dye your hair for you. I love your colour now, but I bet I can make it stand out." The Kyuubi started slightly at that, snapping out of her self-loathing and inner monologue. Was she that despairingly obvious? Yet… she liked the colour. Still slightly shocked, she ran her thin fingers through the cropped pink stands. Most people turned their noses up at the odd shade; taking it as an act of teenage rebellion if they had never talked to the young girl. No one knew the real reason for the dye job, though her natural colour was no less outrageous. It was her natural colour that bothered her so much… scared her, in fact. An indirect reminder of an event she’d rather forget—a grizzly reminder. Shaking her head clear of such thoughts, Eva nearly missed what Davin said next. "Our beauty is natural, Eva. Only we can enhance it to fit our visions." She felt herself blush faintly at the gentle hug; no one had hugged her in years. "Whenever you want to, stop by my wing in the Brynhilduar Main House. I'll be waiting with hair dye and some other things. We'll make your beauty shine through." Evangeline’s blush only seemed to intensify at that; how could Davin see her as beautiful? Yes, people had said she was cute before, seeming all too young to be twelve. She’d never considered herself ‘beautiful’, though maybe that was modestly speaking. She couldn’t be sure. Davin was beautiful; she was ‘cute’ and ‘precious’, a far cry from being related to the word ‘beauty’. Emerald eyes watched as the nekomata stood with the utmost grace and poise, eyes shining like amethysts in the small ladders of light. "I promise you, Eva. You'll learn to love your beauty, just the way it is. The way I did." By now, she probably resembled a ripe cherry with an odd pink stalk on top. Love her beauty… Davin made it sound so easy. "Eva.... you’re more like a sister to me, and a terribly close friend...I do hope...you'll like the way I'll enhance your natural beauty.... to make you shine the way I do, and most envy most harshly. I promise you that you'll hold your head high.... and love how you look." If humanly possible, her flush intensified all the more. “Like a sister…?” She mumbled, more so to herself than her companion. She rarely became that close to people; outsiders avoided the two families and her own family seemed to steer clear of the Kyuubi because of her close relationship with the Hachimata. To have someone think of her so highly… was… It makes me really happy. Taking a deep breath, she said softly, mumbling into her knees really, “I… I only dye it… because I hate my real colour. It’s scary… so harsh and vivid… so… so… so red.” Like blood… spilt so easily. “This colour… is soft. I… like it… I suppose. It’s nice… people don’t stare at it as much as they used to…” She was rambling really, though she was telling Davin something no one else had heard. Though it probably came off as silly.[/ul]
